the beach

the ele.ctio.ns are coming n i'm up to my neck wif work that'll hv to be completed before then. since this is the 2nd time round that i'm doing this (i've been in the organisation THIS long??), i'm not excited like my other colleagues. altho i hv to admit that it is 'exciting' to be in the thick of things. ah well....the perils of work...

my fren got me thinking the other day. was sharing wif her my wedding plans (what little i've made), n she suggested that i check out jb for wedding photograpy. i wasnt really thinking of having photos taken actually, apart from the actual day. not really into posed stiff shots at the studio...hahha

but she kinda got me thinking. maybe, just maybe, i could get someone from jb and hv our shots taken at our own sandy beach.........

i absolutely love these guys man. been rooting for them since the very first…sthg abt their care-free love-all don’t-take-yrself-too-seriously bohemian attitude totally bowls me over. to think these seemingly vacant guys are harvard n uc grads...respect!

never seen them putting each other down at all
forever encouraging each other on
that oh so endearing way they approach phil at the pit stops
their habit of saying things the local way (like them saying syukran instead of thank yous in oman) shows a great sensitivity of cultures other than theirs…n their open-mindedness
i can go on n on man

n i actually whooped for joy at 1.50am in the morning when i found out they’ve not been eliminated after all. yeyyyyy!!!!

books.. isaac.. & bunga paha

| 0 rambled back»

the times’ books warehouse sale over the weekend was disappointing. i didnt get my hands on the asimov books i wanted (more of that later). but it wasnt a complete washout cos i did get myself david mitchell's number 9 dream. was pretty captivated by his cloud atlas, so lets hope this one's as captivating

was told that i'm a completist cos i'm obsessed wif reading the complete collection in isaac asimov's robot, empire and foundation series. not sure the word even exists, but since honey n fh are the experts when it comes to the english language, i'll take their word for it.

but yes, i am obsessed. i am totally hooked on asimov, n i'm upset that i've yet to get my hands on 3 books in the empire series. i hv to know what happened! my craze started one day last year when i chanced upon the first 3 foundation novels at an mph warehouse sales (yes i was introduced to asimov n his works rather late in my reading life, but better late than never!)

since the books were going for cheap, i thot i shd give them a try. n boy was i hooked. started lapping up all the books in the foundation series, thanks to the national library which keeps a great asimov collection by the way (but no empire series!). thats when i found out that there's a robot series that preludes the foundation ones. so i lapped those up. n then i found out that the empire series continues the story where the robot series ended. The empire series fill the chronological gap between the robot series n the foundation series, all of which intertwine together to form a very long and convulated fictional universe (which I totally like cos the plots are all so clever, not only by themselves but also as cleverly-disguised commentaries on the actual state of affairs back in asimov’s times)

but i've yet to get my hands on them! granted, reviews of the books are nothing to shout abt. n even asimov himself had said that those books were not his proudest achievements. but i hv to know what happened!

in other news..

was persuaded by mum to accompany her to check out the wedding stuffs at ayer hitam. it was a learning journey of sorts. for instance, mum was going on n on abt the stuffs for the bunga paha. n i don’t even know what bunga paha is till i saw it. oohhhhh itu rupanya bunga paha... mesti nak ada bunga paha ke ma? eh mestilah.... kalau tak pelamin nampak kosong gitu. oohhhhh ok.

the brand idiot

this reminds me of the time when a fren was whining to me abt a furla bag that she saw that was so nice...but its like sooo expensive so she didnt get it in the end. n i was like thinking...why's she so enamoured wif a sports bag all of a sudden?

thing was...being the brand idiot that i am...i thot she was referring to fila instead of furla

hehhe

songs from school days past

lesson of the day
if you’re trying (to conceive that is), you might want to have yr legs up in the air while doing it

another little gem of information from my ever-helpful honey of a fren…

it's funny how a few years spent together could bind us for a lifetime. feels that way with my group of girls. sure we’ve had our arguments. our petty differences. and we’re not exactly tight now that we each have our own lives to lead. but somehow, i feel reassured in the knowledge that apart from my family, i have my girls to fall back on should things go really wrong.

sometimes i wonder
if i made a wrong step somewhere
and things don’t seem to be as they had been before
it's not so hard then
to just lay down and cry
but then i heard a chorus of voices
coming from the other shore
“look up look”

these are my frens, my frens
just some people walking the same road
with hands
joined as one together
cross the bridge
see the rainbow
feel the breeze
watch the flowers grow
touch the sky
don’t u know
we can go higher higher higher…

remember this girls?

heads up y’all. here’s to us overcoming the challenges thrown our way…insyaallah…

wedding preps

| 5 rambled back»

its friday n i’m in no mood for work. so let me blog a bit abt my wedding preps so far. eh wait a minute. what wedding preps? :p

you see, i’ve been chastised many times by my aunties and frens alike. apparently, i’m one of the most bochap pengantin-to-be around. to them at least.

whats the colour theme for yr room? colour theme for the hantarans? nak pakai dulang ke bakul? dah beli barang hantaran ke belum?
errrrr entah haven’t decided yet

hv u guys decided on the bedset yet?
errrr…we haven’t even gone looking yet

decoration bawah blok colour aper? ahh?? belum discuss dgn decorator lagik? baik decide quick if not all the nice ones gone ah

u pakai mak andam aper? ohh…kenapa tak ambik fm? ke aa (rh, zr, n all other ‘famous’ mak andams) ke? their makeup n baju very nice u know. u can afford them what…

yes i can afford them. but why do i want to splurge so much on this? what can i say…my practicality’s at work here

oh. and the ultimate is this..

aunt: how come everytime i see u ure eating ah?? ure gonna be a bride u know. u better not eat so much if u don’t want to be a fat pengantin. macam mana nak look good in pictures nanti?

me: takpelah. kalau dah gemuk tu..aper nak buat kan

aunt: that’s y u hv to diet now. so when i show your pictures to my frens, i can show my beautiful thin niece instead of a fat one

ishishish. n that coming from my favourite aunt sumore :)

well i suppose i have to expect all this lah. after all, i’m the first cucu perempuan (for my grandparents) and niece (for my aunts & uncles) to get hitched, so….

my folks on the other hand, are pretty cool abt the whole affair. especially my mum. love her love her love her(!!) for being the person that she is.

i want to have a nice, simple wedding. one where everything will go smoothly n guests will be able to enjoy themselves (and not curse the hosts behind our backs cos the food’s not enuff lah, the layanan tak memuaskan lah, blahblahblah).

most importantly, me n spider want a stress-free wedding. cos seriously, isn’t it the marriage n the years ahead together that’s most important, and not the actual wedding day itself?

dearest mum has a very zen advice for me:
just take all the advice & comments u get with a smile lah. don’t get angry or agitated, even if what they’re saying is nonsense. after all, they have yr interests at heart, and they’ll ultimately be the one to doakan kebahagiaan the two of you

how very true :)

so i’ll continue wif my bochapness and i’ll smile my sweet smile everytime i get questions/comments on my wedding preps

:)
sweet tak?

cycling

| 0 rambled back»

cycling’s way too expensive these days. sure it’s a great way to lose those extra kilos, but you wonder sometimes if you’re wasting your money away…

saturday morning for instance, we got hit by the saman squad after our cycling jaunt..

the squad sure tried its darndest to take the fun out of everything. key word here is “tried” tho…cos they did not succeed :)

rental of bikes: $11
parking summons:$30
wind-tousled hair and sore thighs: priceless

in other news...
chelski drew and manu won!!!!!! yeeeehah!!
